What Is a Giclée Fine Art Print ?
A Giclée fine art print refers to a digital reproduction using state of the art inkjet technology. The name comes from the French word Giclée (pronounced Zhee-Clay) that means “fine spray". However not any digital print is a Giclée, only digital prints that are created on special high resolution printers utilizing specially formulated inks and media under strict printing standards. The media is carried by a spinning roller while infinitely small pixels of rich, vibrant UltraChrome inks are sprayed on it at a very high speed. This renders an amazingly smooth and consistent image true to the original painting or photograph, a superb quality fine art reproduction.

The Giclée is widely recognized as the next best thing to owning original artwork at a remarkably lower price, and is widely embraced for its astonishing quality by the world's finest museums, galleries, publishers and artists. A Giclée Print is quite simply the closest replication of an original artwork that is currently possible.

How is your printing process done?
Our process of reproducing original masterpieces begins with drum scanning and then each image is carefully color-corrected to match the original. We use Epson's 9600 with long lasting UltraChrome inks on 100% cotton artist's canvas or Arches Water Color Paper or Epson Premium Luster Photo paper. UltraChrome inks offer up to 80 to 100 years longevity. For our canvas Giclée prints, we spray with an anti-fading UV clear coat. Treat these prints as you would with any original piece of art.

What are the advantages of Giclée?

  • Quality: Extremely beautiful prints with rich vibrant colors and fine details that no other print making methods can compare to.

  • Longevity: Giclée's last longer than lithographs and photographs by more than several decades. For more info click here.

  • Artist Materials: Can use real artist's materials such as canvas, luster photo paper or Arches smooth watercolor papers. All this gives the authentic look and feel of an original piece of art.

  • Color: Giclée's can reproduce more colors than traditional printmaking techniques.

  • Flexibility: Unlike typical print, you can choose the size and material you want.

  • The Best Option: Simply put,  Giclée is the next best thing you can own besides the original.

How do I take care of the prints?
As with all art prints, Giclée printed on fine art paper should be handled with care, proper framing behind UV glass is recommended for display. Giclée printed on canvas are sprayed with a clear UV resistant top-coating that is water-resistant and filters out 99% of harmful UV light. UV resistant varnish also has the beneficial effect of enhancing the colors of the final image. All prints should be kept out of direct sunlight.

How do I frame the prints?
Canvas prints can be mounted with the same methods used with original oil paintings such as stretching on a traditional wooden frame or pasting to a flat board using photo mounting spray glue. Currently we are not offering any framing service. Prices do not include framing, mounting, stretching or shipping. Prints on photo or water color paper can be easily framed using any off-the-shelf frame.

Sizes and Borders

  • Canvas: The sizes listed refer to the size of the trimmed print, including borders. All canvas prints include a 1" - 2" margin to allow for stretching or mounting of canvas prints. Different images will have different "aspect ratios" (the proportion of width to height). Therefore, printed image dimensions will vary. We will print the image as large as possible within minimum borders. The minimum border is one inch.

  • Photo Paper / Water Color Paper: All photo paper and water color paper prints include a 1/2" - 1" margin to allow for matting or mounting of paper prints. Certain sizes and media may require up to one week to print.

Are custom sizes available?
If you require a size other than the standard offered, you can order a Custom Size print up to 44"x 56". For more information click here.
